Indonesia has the potential to be the country that will suffer the biggest losses due to the climate crisis because it threatens Indonesia's key economic sectors ranging from agriculture, infrastructure, tourism, as well as labor. As a tropical country, Indonesia is highly vulnerable to extreme heat and humidity that will impact human health, infrastructure resilience, and labor productivity. In addition, as a country that is highly dependent on domestic food crops such as rice and coffee, changes in rainfall caused by the climate crisis will reduce crop yields and threaten food security.
Indonesia still has the opportunity to make more ambitious emission reductions. However, if emission reductions are still based on the 31% by 2030 target stated in their NDC, the increase in Jakarta's average temperature will still reach dangerous levels of heat and humidity for its residents.
